Woofa~Roo Dashers reserves the right to stop or limit any dog’s participation due to age, body condition, lameness, limitations, temperament,

weather conditions, or any other factor that could affect the safety of the dog, other participating dogs or spectators.

1.    All Dogs must be 18 months of age or older to participate. No exceptions.

2.    Make sure your dog is wearing a collar that is easy to remove to run the course and easy put back on after their run. PLEASE no harnesses!

3.    No HUMAN aggressive dogs allowed. Any dogs displaying aggression towards people will be asked to leave with no refund.

4.    Dog aggressive dogs are allowed at the Woofa~Roo Dashers practices, but you MUST keep them under control at all times. Dog aggressive dogs are not allowed at Woofa~Roo Pet Festival.

5.    Dogs must be managed by an adult at all times. This is for the safety of both the children and the dogs. Please do not allow your dog to approach another dog without their owners expressed permission.

7.    Like humans, dogs need warming up before exercise. Please walk your dog prior to running the course. This will warm up and loosen muscles prior to running the lure.

8.    Please walk your dog following their run in order to cool down.

9.    Dogs will not be permitted to run with less than 15 minutes from the previous run to help avoid injuries.

What is Lure Coursing?

From the Canadian Sighthound Field Association Website:
In simple terms, coursing means to run or race after something. Lure coursing is a simulation of a rabbit (the lure) in flight from predators (the hounds) who chase after it. For humanitarian reasons, live rabbits have been replaced by white plastic bags which are moved through the coursing field by means of a special string at ground level with pulleys controlling the direction. The lure makes sudden turns, veers off in various directions, and often does the unexpected as a rabbit would if pursued. Hence, you will often hear handlers telling their hounds to “get the bunny.”

Though lure coursing was developed as a performance event for sighthounds, many breeds of dogs have the ability to lure course. Many dogs love the thrill of the chase, not just sighthounds. It doesn’t matter if your dog is a small terrier, a Labrador Retriever or a mixed breed, if they love to chase things, they will love lure coursing!

About Us

Woofa~Roo Dashers was founded in 2014 by avid dog lovers, Lorene Clayton of Woofa~Roo Pet Fest and Vic and Kathy Pundzius of For Your Fur Kids. Woofa~Roo Dashers was formed out of the love of our dogs, dogs in general and because there are very few options for dog sports in Essex County.

We are a non-competitive all breed lure coursing group that comes together weekly to watch our dogs have fun doing what comes naturally to them, running and chasing prey!
